This journey is real. Yours will be your own version of it.

Four days, one hotel, and two of them left entirely alone.

Phu Quoc stayed largely undeveloped until the late 2000s, and the shape of that is still visible. More than half the island is national park, primary lowland rainforest with trails and waterfalls and very few people on them. The coastline runs about 150km, and a good deal of it is still reached only by dirt track or boat.

What has been built sits mostly along the west coast, where Long Beach runs twenty kilometres facing the open Gulf of Thailand. That orientation is the whole point: calm water most of the year and sunsets straight out to sea. South of it, the An Thoi archipelago holds the island's coral and its clearest water, and the cable car out to Hon Thom is the longest over-sea crossing of its kind anywhere.

Route

Phu Quoc is Vietnam's largest island, sitting in the Gulf of Thailand closer to Cambodia than to the Vietnamese mainland, and it takes about an hour to fly there from Saigon. It has roughly 150km of coastline and a national park covering more than half its land area, one of the last intact stretches of lowland rainforest in the south. The west coast faces the open gulf, which is why the sunsets are what people remember and why Long Beach became the resort strip. The south is where the water is clearest, around the An Thoi archipelago, reached by boat or by the longest over-sea cable car in the world. Three nights in one hotel, two days with nothing scheduled, and no packing in between.

About this trip

This 4-day tour flies from Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc for three nights in the Gulf of Thailand. One hour each way, everything private on the ground.

Expedia has just named Phu Quoc one of the ten hottest islands of 2026, singling it out for affordable luxury, one of only two Southeast Asian destinations on the list.

More than half the island is national park, and much of its 150km of coastline is still undeveloped. The west coast faces the open gulf, which is why Long Beach got the resorts and the sunsets. The clearest water is south around the An Thoi archipelago. Bai Sao is the best-known beach: white sand, shallow water, busy by mid-morning, so go early.

Departures run year-round, November to April the dry season. Note that Phu Quoc's visa exemption covers direct international arrivals only, so this itinerary needs a Vietnam e-visa.

Book directly with Vietnam Express Tour. Flights, hotels, private transfers and guides included.

The journey, day by day

Written out the way it runs, so nothing is left to your imagination. Read it, note the days you would keep and the ones you would skip, and a local expert reshapes the rest around you.

MORNING: Flight to Phú Quốc

Pick-up from your Ho Chi Minh City hotel and transfer to Tân Sơn Nhất Airport for the short domestic flight to Phú Quốc (approximately 1 hour)

AFTERNOON: Arrival on the Island

Phú Quốc is Vietnam's largest island, located in the Gulf of Thailand near the Cambodian border. The island remained largely undeveloped until the late 2000s; much of the interior is still national park, and the beaches on the west coast face west for dramatic sunsets.

Transfer from Phú Quốc International Airport to your beach hotel; Long Beach (Bãi Trường) on the southwest coast is the main resort strip

First afternoon free: the beach directly in front of most Long Beach hotels is calm and swimmable year-round (except July-September when rougher weather arrives from the southwest)

Dương Đông town to the north has the island's main night market along the Dương Đông River - worth an evening walk

Other not mentioned in the itinerary

This covers the journey as written above. Once your version is set, your local expert confirms in writing exactly what sits inside your quote and what does not, before anything is agreed.

Is this journey a good starting point for you?

The honest version

Because this itinerary flies via Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc's 30-day visa exemption does not apply. Every traveller needs a Vietnam e-visa or visa before departure. Vietnam Express Tour sends a current checklist once the booking is confirmed.

A good starting point if you are

Anyone who wants a short beach stop with real substance behind it, or a soft landing at either end of a longer Vietnam trip. One hotel for three nights, no internal repacking, and enough on the island that the two free days fill themselves if you want them to. Good for couples, families and anyone travelling with a diving or snorkeling interest in the dry season.

Say so early if you

Not for travellers looking for culture, history or a busy itinerary. Phu Quoc is a beach island with a national park attached, and two of the four days are deliberately unscheduled. Anyone wanting temples, markets and old towns will get more from Hoi An or the Mekong Delta.

The next step asks for real detail. Your dates, who is travelling, how you like to move, what you would change about this route. It takes a few minutes to fill in, because a local expert writes your itinerary from those answers rather than sending you a file. Nothing is booked or charged at this stage.
